Tragedy Strikes Cameroonian Football
The Cameroonian football community has been plunged into deep mourning following the tragic passing of Thomas Legrand Kuissi Tchouenkam. The iconic central defender and long-serving captain of MTN Élite One outfit Stade Renard de Melong passed away on Wednesday night.
Battle with Illness
- The Cause: Lovingly nicknamed “Bâtiment” (The Building) for his rock-solid presence, Kuissi succumbed to a severe, prolonged illness.
- The Sidelining: The domestic-based international had been battling intense back pain for several months, which gradually sidelined him from competitive play before the conclusion of the 2025/2026 season.
- The Loss: Despite undergoing medical treatments, his health deteriorated rapidly, resulting in his untimely departure.
A Historic Club Legend
Kuissi leaves behind an extraordinary legacy in the local top flight. He was instrumental in Stade Renard’s historic rise from the Regional Second Division to the elite tier of Cameroonian football. His defensive leadership famously culminated in guiding the Melong-based club to its unforgettable Coupe du Cameroun glory in 2019. He also earned caps for the Cameroon Intermediate Lions national team during the 2024 CHAN qualifiers
